Technical Consultancy

Our tech team supports our user experience design work and provides specialist consultancy to external development teams to help them implement new ideas using cutting edge technologies.

The core services we provide are CMS template development, responsive website development and Javascript development.

Why is our tech team so important?

An architect might not ever build a wall herself, but she has an understanding of the bricks and mortar being used in the walls she designs. In the same way, we have to know the strengths and weaknesses of the technology behind our user experience designs.

Our small tech team make sure we make the most of the materials we’re designing with, and that we also understand their limitations, so we make pragmatic design recommendations and don’t ask the impossible of wider development teams.

What else can our team do?
  • Help in-house teams adopt new technologies that we’re already familiar with. (So you learn from our past mistakes!)
  • Put an experienced developer into an in-house team for the duration of a project, to provide a link between the design and development teams.
  • Help companies implement the experiments suggested as part of our idea validation service. In-house teams may not be geared up to move this fast.

What don’t we do?

Our tech team is small and ultra-focused on what we do best, so we collaborate with trusted partners to deliver the stuff we can’t do alone, like large-scale software development projects, ecommerce site builds and mobile apps.

Our technology toolbox

CMS Templates

This involves watching and listening to customers interact with services, whether it’s in store, over the phone or digitally. We do this using call listening, mystery shoppers, observation and various other customer monitoring techniques. There are crossovers with the methods we use for usability testing.

We report back to you on the insights we gather, but we also recognise that analysis only takes you so far and you need a blueprint for going forward, so we give you a series of testable hypotheses to take to the next stage.

Responsive Website Development

Today, customers expect websites to work seamlessly across all platforms, from mobile and tablet to desktop. Our team builds sites that work however your customers view them, and we share our experience of this rapidly developing technology willingly.

We build websites that are mobile-friendly, tablet-friendly, desktop-friendly and user-friendly.

This method of responsive design offers users a great experience, and we can scale it to your needs, whether that’s a fluid site that adapts and changes to every imaginable device, or just something that works on the few devices your customers use. Whatever you need, you can be confident that we’ll provide the solution.

Javascript Development

Think of JavaScript as the salt and pepper of the internet; it’s the added seasoning that brings everything together and makes all that interactive, pretty stuff work. It’s a fairly specialist field with a shortage of developers on the market, but our people are some of the best, and we can share their knowledge and experience with your team.

Our developers follow software development best practice, harnessing the power of JavaScript frameworks to deliver robust applications in the browser. In practical terms, that means websites that look great and do what they’re supposed to.

Angular JS and other JavaScript Frameworks

If you’re running a web application then the chances are you’re manipulating data as well as presenting it front-end. That can slow things down for users, especially on the mobile web. And slow loading times can lose you customers and conversions.

Angular JS and Javascript frameworks are a solution to this problem, allowing the front end to handle the presentation while sending and receiving snippets of data to and from your server. As bits of data are smaller than whole HTML files, your application is more responsive. And if your application is more responsive, your users are more likely to complete and convert.
